So a couple of Mondays ago it was a wet dreary mess of a day, plus it was Monday, making it extra crap! Now I know it’s not ideal to cheer yourself up with food all the time, but this was a particularly blue start to the week for me, so that’s what I did.
Out to lunch and to Pottinger’s Entry, one of Belfast’s best-known landmarks, which has seen a bit more life breathed into it with the addition of Pottingers. A bright, modern little deli, brought to us by the people behind the iconic Morning Star pub, just down the other end of the entry.

Immediately there’s a sign declaring the use of local produce in their hefty selection of salads and sandwiches, all with catchy names. I had the ‘It’s a wrap’: spiced lamb with dukkah, minted yogurt, hummus, leaves and pomegranate. A very interesting little combo made with extra fresh ingredients and tender lamb meat.
Here are my other picks off the Pottingers belfast menu:
- Sandwich – Reuben – hot salt beef, swiss cheese, slaw, dill pickle & tarragon mayo on rye.
- Salad – Hey Pesto – quinoa, parmesan, chicken, bacon, cherry tomato, pesto, peas & rocket
- Smoothie (‘Smooth Operators’) – Espresso Yourself – espresso, almonds, cinnamon & oats. Love the sound of this!
- ‘Phee Phi Pho’ – a mighty meal with shredded cabbage, carrot, spring onion, nori, chilli, lime, peas, egg and noodles stacked and served with either poached chicken, shredded beef or miso aubergine.
Plus of course, you can build your own on what they call the ‘Assembly Line’. There’s a good choice of cold drinks, tray bakes /cakes and the coffee is excellent too. A cappuccino and Eton mess bake after my wrap just had to be done.
