French Village Lisburn Road
Sunday brunches are great! It’s basically the go-ahead to unashamedly eat absolutely anything you fancy between the hours of 10am and 4pm. And a few weeks ago we headed to French Village Lisburn Road to do exactly that.
This was my first in ages and in the classy surroundings of FV’s Patisserie & Brasserie. For company, I had my coeliac sibling and my wee Son.
French Village are well renowned for their cakes, buns, pastries and the rest. All of which they sell by the bucket load in their café on Botanic Avenue, here in the brasserie and in supply to over 170 businesses here, including some pretty impressive names.
But here on the Lisburn Road they have produced some excellent menu choices including their weekend brunch and a nice kids menu.
Great Kids Menu
Kids like what they like, and the let you know it, fact. FV have covered the bases here, bar your child having an eclectic taste for the likes of caviar or truffles.
Chicken strips, burger, Bolognese & bangers and mash, any of these with juice and a cookie for £6. You can get a healthy side of veg as well for an extra 2 quid. They are also very accommodating and would sort out a child portion of a main meal if asked nicely.
The FV brunch menu is pretty tremendous. If like us, you go on a Sunday PM you can have the Sunday roast, sirloin, champ, veg, duck fat roasties and Yorkshire pud for £14. Or, at the same time and up until 1pm (served from 10) you could have the FV breakfast, sourdough, bacon, sausage, scrambled eggs & chipotle beans (amazing!) for £8.
Some picks from the rest of the menu
- Healthy – Walter Ewing’s smoked salmon, watercress and cream cheese bagel.
- Toasts & Pancakes – brioche French toast, cinnamon cream, maple syrup & blueberry compote.
- Buttermilk Waffles – with sweet cured pork belly, mustard maple syrup, sriracha and topped with fried egg (my choice).
- The Rest – chorizo & chipotle baked beans, poached eggs & sourdough (sibling’s choice, with GF toast).
There’s so much more on there too though, check out the full menu here>> https://bit.ly/2wP5y7Q.
I don’t usually order pork belly, which was much better than a ‘nice wee change’ as people say, I would happily eat it all over again. The highlight was the chipotle beans, which my Sis very generously let me try.
I would recommend ordering these on the side of everything, no matter what you have. My Son munched away at his goujons and was unsettlingly quite well behaved.
But inevitably his patience wore thin and he went for a wee dander. It was close to closing so not many people to harass. He did enjoy car watching through the floor to ceiling windows overlooking the Lisburn Road. Whoever cleaned them that morning may not have appreciated this (sorry folks!). Actually, James who was looking after us was very understanding and great with him, which I loved.
We then got a treat to finish, this gorgeously light lemon polenta cake & ice cream.
For child-free dining (whatever that is!), FV host wine and food pairing evenings. More info on these and the rest of their menus on their website >> http://www.frenchvillagebelfast.co.uk/lisburn-road/.
Big thank you to James (and congrats on recently getting Married!), and the rest of the FV team for the invite to Brunch.
