So AMPM Belfast has a new lunch menu and they very kindly asked me along to try it out. They also gave me something very cool for all you lovely people, more on that later. First, let’s see what’s going on with this new menu.
I think its fair to call AMPM well established now, turning 16 this year. It’s quirky, chic bohemian vibe is a main talking point for all who visit and the Cabaret Supper Club upstairs is famous for its memorable nights of entertainment.
Plenty of Reasons to Lunch
During the daytime, AMPM are now looking to compete with the enormous amount of lunchtime choice in Belfast City Centre. They’ve put together an extensive menu covering quick bites, groups in to sip cocktails and share nibbles, and those with time to sit and enjoy the full AMPM experience.
From the Express menu £6.50 gets you the likes of Brisket & Chorizo Hash Cake, Stuffed Bacon Loin with Herb Mash or a Deluxe Croque Madame.
Then there’s the starters, two to note are the Goat’s Cheese Salad with figs, apple, orange & beetroot chutney, maple & walnut brittle & balsamic dressing, very off the wall as far as salads go, and Duck Confit, Ricotta & Parmesan Ravioli with garlic, thyme & wild mushroom cream (also available as a main). I also love that they do a fancy Marmalade on Toast with fresh bread baked in-house and salted butter for £3.50.
Other mains include the Bohemian Burger, with 3 cheese, salad and mustard mayo and Chicken Madras with mango chutney. I had the Bohemian Chicken, which also comes as a starter. Chicken strips coated in sesame seed, lime, ginger & lemongrass marinade with chilli jam & aioli, piled high on an exceptionally tasty Asian slaw. The dish was well presented and the crispy-to-tender balance was spot on.
AMPM Belfast Million Dollar Sides
The side dishes are a little more than the usual, such as garlic and parmesan mash and sweet potato fries with truffle mayo. Then there’s the Million Dollar Fries! with chorizo, spicy house tomato sauce and giant parmesan shavings, these were something of a highlight (not taking anything away from the chicken) but as sides go they are pretty spectacular and definitely for sharing.
The team in AMPM are very attentive and accommodating, and I was very impressed by the restaurant and their new menu. I’m making a point of going back this week to have the marmalade on toast.
Big thanks to AMPM for the invite.
