Jazz & Fizz at Bert’s

Bert’s Jazz Bar, part of the now world renowned 5* Merchant Hotel have themselves a brand new afternoon tea menu with a twist. A selection of bite size savoury treats to nibble on and a glass of prosecco to wash them down with. Sounds fantastic! Nic and I were very fortunate to be asked along to try it out.

5 Star Service

On a sunny Saturday afternoon we made our way to high street and Bert’s Jazz Bar, somewhere I had actually never been. I must say I was expecting the entire place to be screaming of hoit and toit. Instead what I got was complete laid back luxury. We looked around and at each other already deciding that we would be back. It’s a wonderful venue, even just to sit and have a drink in. The service (which is worth mentioning this early) was absolutely top class and worthy of being called 5*. Eve, who served us, did so with finesse and professionalism. Well impressed!

So along came our prosecco and tea stands, a separate one each as Nic got the veggie version. You always feel a touch classy and sophisticated sitting with a glass of bubbles and a wee tea stand full of fancy food in front of you, despite how unrefined and devoid of suave you may actually be.

A striking display of mini eats of all shapes and colours. Clearly a lot of thought has been put into choosing the selection and equal effort into producing it with such consistency.

 

 

Delicious Debates

The entire afternoon tea was a fantastic experience and, but for sheer personal taste, the food was all superb: the gazpacho was a little strange, though I’m not big soup fan, hot or cold. Special mention for the croque madame muffin, crispy hen’s egg and the smoked chicken sandwich which was my favourite of the lot and damn near the best chicken I’ve ever tasted. The beetroot and goat’s cheese macaron gets the ‘most out there’ prize and caused much debate between Nic and myself.

Following the savoury, for the sweet fans, you get a selection of petit fours. In our case a decadently rich chocolate truffle and fresh baked, still warm, olive oil and pistachio bread.

 

 

When in Bert’s

With it being World Gin Day we then treated ourselves to a couple of serves from the also new Irish Gin menu. A first try of Boatyard Double Gin and Listoke, a gin from Co, Louth.

 

 

A great way to spend the afternoon! Tonnes of thank yous to Bert’s Bar and Niamh at MCE PR for the invitation.

The new savoury afternoon tea is available on Saturday from noon to 3:30pm and Sunday from noon – 4:30pm. At £25 pp it’s a great alternative to the regular afternoon tea, complete with a luxurious setting and first class service.

The afternoon tea (which included the prosecco, or tea/coffee) was complimentary, the other drinks shown were paid for.
