New Look to Tesco NI Flagship Store

The folks at Tesco Northern Ireland very kindly offered to show me round their newly refurbished flagship store at Newtownbreda, where £2.1 million has been invested into enhancing their customer shopping experience.

What’s New in Newtownbreda

We arrived early for the tour so went up and had a coffee in the newly refitted cafe, the Wife and wee Son in tow. Sure we may as well get some stuff in while we’re here!

The cafe has much improved. I’ve always found supermarket cafes to be dull, generally not very pleasant places. But, while you still know where you are, this one was now much warmer and comfortable. They serve hot meals freshly cooked, there’s an impressive selection of treats and plenty of snacks for little ones. I can recommend the chocolate orange muffins, very nice.

Supporting Local

They have spruced up their bakery and deli counters including a great selection of cheeses and a hot deli stocking produce from local suppliers TS Foods. Staying local is the new addition of a Primacy Farm Butchers in store, the 12th Tesco in Northern Ireland to have this, a great asset to a supermarket. Real Butchers with personality and knowledge, and always helpful.

Within the superstore there is also now a space that local community groups and charities can use for events and classes free of charge.

The main focus of the change was to make the store feel much more open and spacious. Lower shelving units and wider aisles most notably in the beers, wines and spirits and clothing departments, with an extra aisle for fresh fruit and veg added also. It does feel much less cramped with trolleys as you make your way round and everywhere seemed much more accessible.

Hopefully customers will feel the benefit from this investment. Our own wee shopping trip was a more pleasant experience. Even my Son (mostly) behaved himself! The best points of the refurb are the much nicer cafe space and the Primacy Butchers. It was great to get another reminder of Tesco’s commitment to Northern Ireland food and drink suppliers and producers

Thank you to Tesco’s Marketing Manager Caoimhe Mannion for the invite and tour.
