In recognition of Northern Ireland’s 1st ever Year of Food and Drink, local sandwich company Around Noon have put together a sandwich featuring fillings made by fellow NI food producers.
The sandwich is available both North and South of the border. In the Republic of Ireland you will find it in selected snack and food to go retailers. In Northern Ireland, Ground Espresso Bars are selling the sandwich by the load to the hungry lunchtime masses. I headed to Ground’s Wellington Place cafe to try it out.
Here’s how it’s made up: Sourdough baguette with avocado (my new favourite food), roasted tomato and rocket from Willowbrook Foods based in Killinchy along with mozzarella and finished with sriracha sauce from Rich Sauces in Ards. A nice showcase of Northern Ireland food talent.
I went for the baguette served hot which I would recommend. The ingredients compliment each other very well, particularly the melted mozzarella with hot avocado and tomatoes. The crowning glory for me though has to be the sriracha sauce giving the sandwich a great little kick.
An altogether very nice lunch and a great way to promote and celebrate this landmark year for Northern Ireland.
